DC Free Today Only

Hello all, Natasha here... once again. I just have a short and sweet announcement. Darwin's Children is free today for an Amazon Prime promotion. Get it while its zip!

Sure, a blurb...

Life can get pretty complicated for any seventeen-year-old girl, but for a home-schooled telepathic black girl trying to survive in a prestigious private school in small-town Jonesborough, Tennessee, it can be maddening – especially when her telepathic father keeps eavesdropping on her thoughts!
Jaycie Lerner’s family isn’t the usual mom-dad-kid setup. Her family's special – in more ways that one. Her mom’s MIA, but Allison, her personal live-in ‘trainer,’ is more than a mom, with her own special abilities, like being able to lift cars and run incredibly fast. And her godfather John can literally convince anyone to do anything.
But, as far as the rest of the world’s concerned, Jaycie’s on the outside looking in. The townsfolk love her pediatrician father, but she doesn’t fit in with ‘normal’ kids, and she doesn’t really want to. Most of her free time is spent training to keep her telekinetic and telepathic powers under control. But there’s one thing she can’t control – her feelings, especially when her best friend Matt is nearby. If only he knew what she was truly capable of...
Everything seems to be status quo for Jaycie and her family, until she receives a cryptic message from a stranger and meets a very unusual girl new to Jonesborough. Then all hell breaks loose!

Casting Call for Darwin's Children: The Psychic Vampires

Before I share this post I feel the need to disclaim myself. Darwin's Children is not being adapted into a movie. Nor will it be a TV show. I wanted to clear that up because I gave several people the wrong idea. I just do this for fun.

My bad...

Moving on, last week I cast the teens from the Darwin's Children series. Now, it's time to move onto those wacky paranormal's. The psychic vampires. In the first book of the series, I really only introduced Layla Grey, the vampire mother and Sasha Grey, her savage daughter. Because of this, they are only two I will be "casting today."

Let me know what you think of my picks.

Layla Grey. Picture her without the make-up and with jet black hair. I think Charlize Theron would be a fierce vampire. I've loved her ever since I saw her in Monster.

Sasha Grey! I'd love to see Michelle Trachtenberg take on the most lethal hunter in DC. I know she hasn't done much action, but she has the look, and I've always been a fan.

Well, what do you think? Feel free to share your choices. Next week, a few members of the Dey-Vah Guard. That should be fun.

Book Review: Excelsior by George H. Sirois

I knew I would love Excelsior for two reasons. The first is the title. The Latin phrase 'excelsior' simply means “even higher.” Onward and upward. If you happen to be a comic book nerd, you know that this is also Stan Lee’s infamous catchphrase: used at the end of every “Bullpen Bulletins,” Mavel column. =)

The second reason I knew I would enjoy this title is that it starts with, to my great delight, a quote from Optimus Prime which I’ll share now:

“…one day, an Autobot shall rise from our ranks, and use the power of the Matrix to light our darkest hour.”

Mmmm, that is classic nerd poetry.

Now for a very brief, Natasha-like synopsis.

Excelsior tells the story of Matthew Peters, an instantly likeable high school kid that reminds me of so many boys I knew in high school. You know, the ones that never got laid. Peters is easily relatable to the reader, and likable.

Our protagonist spends most of his time drawing…and, to my delight, working on his comic book. His most impressive achievement to date is his website, chronicling a cast of characters that inhabit the distant planet of Denab IV.

The story grips you, and then… Peters goes from fan boy with a dream, to warrior. Oh, did I mention he has to save a planet now?

This story grips you from the beginning and does not let go.  I was blown away with the author’s ability to build worlds, and quite frankly, this is science fiction at its best.

I am excited that Sirois has agreed to do a giveaway on this blog, because this is a must read for all fans of comic book based fiction.

Five stars… only because there isn’t a site in existence that allows you to rate higher.

Book Review: Caleo by James Crawford

Caleo (Leech, #1)Caleo by James Crawford

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved almost everything about this book. It has all the elements of both the young adult and paranormal genre that fans come to love and expect. Caleo Anima doesn't fit in at Butler High. So, you get the outcast element which is always a crowd pleaser. Then, a stranger turns up to tell him that he is part of a magical race Crawford calls the Leeches. The story's protagonist then finds himself torn from a world that never accepted him anyway, and thrown into the middle of a war that has been fought where no eyes could see for decades.

Excellent, excellent and FANTASTIC.
